Over 200 years of integrity and reliability.
Lowe and Sons was founded in Chester by the first George Lowe in 1770 and has occupied its existing historic premises in Bridge Street Row for over two centuries since 1804.
Lowes has a long history of silver making and selling in Chester and there is a showcase in the Chester Grosvenor Museum entirely displaying silverware bearing the Lowes hallmark.
We specialise in good quality antique and preowned silverware, fine quality antique and vintage jewellery and we have an ever changing collection of preowned and vintage watches.
We are particularly proud to have for sale an exceptionally large and varied selection of silverware bearing the very collectable Chester Hallmark.
We also carry a carefully selected range of fine quality new diamond and gemset rings and jewellery as well as new silverware for that special gift.
From time to time we hold an exhibition in our upstairs gallery. Currently it is about the Chester hallmark and the Assay Office which closed in 1962. This also includes a section about early Chester silversmiths. The Lowe family feature and particularly family member Harold Lowe who was fifth officer on the Titanic and one of the heroes of the tragic sinking in 1912.
Manager Kevin Parry in his 36th year at Lowe & Sons started as a junior in 1977. He has travelled widely sourcing quality Jewellery and Silverware and has appeared on promotional videos and more recently on the Antiques Roadshow talking about Chester Silver.
Silver has been assayed at Chester from the early 15th century right through to when the assay office was closed on the 24th August 1962. Since then Chester hallmarked silver has become collectable the world over for the quality of the items as well as their rarity. Whether you are looking for a gift or are a collector of certain makers or periods we at Lowe & Sons will do our utmost to source items for you, with 3 members of staff having over 100 years experience in the trade we have built up a wide network of contacts.
